Student Success Statements
"The key to freedom is obedience.  The more obedient we are, the more freedom we have."
   Boyd K. Packer

This quote can be kind of confusing.  Mostly because when people think of the word "obedience", they think that they are following someone else's "orders".  "Obey" sounds as if we need to listen to EVERYTHING that is asked of us.  But in reality, this quote means more than that.  This quote means that being good brings you good rewards.  If you take advantage of someone's trust, if you break the rules, if you lie to your parents, than freedom is taken away from you.  Freedom is a privilege, not a right.  We are more than welcome to have freedom, but the moment we abuse that freedom, it is taken away from us.  That is why we have laws and rules, to test us.  They test our character.  I am allowed to have a phone because my mom allows me to, but the moment I break that trust we have, she has the right to take it away.  Obedience is respect, loyalty, character, honesty, etc.  It doesn't mean that we BELONG to someone, it means that we respect them.  It shows that we can be trusted to do the right thing when situations present themselves.  We are free because we "obey".
