Student Success Statement

To me, this quote kind of defines the law of the universe.  There are just some things in life that will never be changed.  Now, this quote is saying that we must have the common sense to know what is wrong and what is right.  Because no matter how many people stand together, if they are standing for something wrong, it will always be wrong.  Doing the right thing will always be the right thing.  Each person had their own little twist on the definitions of wrong and right.  But it is what it is.  RIght is right and wrong is wrong.  I think this quote is trying to tell us that even if we stand alone, if we are doing the right thing, we are powerful.  And even if we stand with a thousand people, if we are doing the wrong thing, we are not powerful.  Stand up for what  is right, even if you have to stand alone.

I love this quote.  I have read it before, so it doesn’t surprise me that we have it as one of our SSS’s.  I love what this quote is saying.  It is saying that we need to think about our future.  What we want now, we will not want in 5 minutes.  But what we want most, we will want it until we get it.  This is why it is important to write down our goals.  Because our goals are what we desire most in life.  Sometimes people think that a “want is just a “want”.  But in fact, it isn’t.  When we want something so bad, and then we finally achieve it or get that, we feel satisfied.  So, in reality, our wants are our needs.  What people want most in life is something that they should work towards every single day.  We need to focus on our goals because they are what can make or break us.  

          

Homecoming

Homecoming is a tradition.  All over the U.S., places like schools and colleges (usually in late September or October), have a “Homecoming” to welcome back students to the new school year.

History: Homecoming goes back all the way to the 19th century.  It started a long, long time ago.  Most of the time, the sport that is set to represent a Homecoming is football.  Football has been around for many years, which means that Homecoming stemmed from that sport.  It is to show pride in your school or college, and to HAVE FUN.

Why do we celebrate Homecoming?:  We celebrate homecoming because it is like the official “Welcome” to everyone.  It is to make everyone get excited about the new school year, and to make everyone feel like they are “home” at school.  We also celebrate this to take pride in previous school years.  Homecoming is celebrated simply to let everyone know they are welcome, and to make them feel at home.

Events and Activities:  Homecoming involves three major things.  That is the Homecoming Game, the Homecoming Dance, and the Homecoming Queen and King (or Court).  The Homecoming Game is usually a home game, and there is also (usually) a parade float involved.  A parade float that shows school spirit and that has the school colors/mascot/logo on it.  The Homecoming Dance is the Friday of, or the Saturday following, the Homecoming Game.  There is music, dancing, and usually a theme involved.  The Homecoming Queen and King, or Court is first nominated then elected.  People who are part of the school nominate a King and a Queen, and whoever receives the most nominations, becomes a nominee.  Once they are nominated, people can vote on who becomes Queen and King.  Some schools may also include a Prince and a Princess, and that will become a Homecoming Court.

My Opinion:  I am a very positive and bubble person, which means that I have a lot of school spirit!!  I love Homecoming.  I love wearing school colors, and having pride in the school that I go to.

    To me, this quote is really important.  I feel that this quote is absolutely correct in what it says.  A good name is something to be proud of.  It is something that we are known for, something that people use to identify us.  I think that we must spend time trying to love ourselves and understand ourselves.  When we know who we are as people, we will then make a good name for ourselves.  A good name is known as life's greatest achievement because it takes years and years of hard work and dedication to build up a good name.  We must do what is right and do what our heart tells us is right.  We must do the kind thing out of the kindness of our hearts.  Our name is really important, which is why it is said to be one of the greatest achievements.  For example, the person who said this, Coach K, made a good name for himself.  He is a famous basketball coach, and why?  Because he is a person of integrity and a person who decided that before being a basketball coach, or anything/one for that matter, he was going to be a good person.  THAT is how he made a good name for himself. 

India:

The top 3 careers in India are those that involve law, animation, or fashion design.  Law, being the number one option, is the career that has the most availability.  This career is a very good one, because not many people work in this field.  That means, you are more likely to have more clients.  Secondly, a career in law is ranked as one of the highest paying jobs.  

England:

A job that is very popular in the UK is being a nanny.  Nannies in England get paid (American dollar) $16 per hour.  Which may not seem like a lot, but remember, there are also a lot of employment chances when it comes to this career/job.  This job can be good for someone who loves to be around kids or wants to be a part of a family (ex: a single, more elderly, person).

Germany:

A career that is highly available in Germany is a Facilities Project Manager.  An F.P.M.  is in charge of construction projects that take place all around the city.  FPM’s earn up to $65,876 a year (American dollar).  This jobs requires good leadership skills and patience, seeing as you will manage people and ideas when thinking about constructing a new building.

Would you like to work in another country?  If yes, tell which country and which career.  Why?  If no, why not?

I would like to be a Nanny in England.  I love working with kids and I think that I would be a really good Nanny to.  Overall, I think the pay is good and I would be doing something that I love to do.

 

Student Success Statement

I really like this SSS.  I think the message this quote is trying to put out there is that we need to be more concerned about who we are as people than material things.  Our name is what we use as an identifier, it is basically who we are.  People know us by our names, which stresses the importance of it.  I think that it is important to make a good name instead of a bad name.  Meaning that whenever people hear my name, they will think of me.  When they think of me, I want it to be something good and something memorable.

Health Educator

Duties and Responsibilities: The job of health educator is to promote, improve, and maintain the health of a community.  They help a certain community or person adopt healthy habits.  They can assist a person individually and help them better understand what should be done to be healthy.   A health administrator is expected to know what is healthy and what is not.

Salary:  Health educators earn, on average, $41,830 a year.

Education:  The minimal level of education a health educator is required to receive is a bachelor's degree.  They must receive this degree in health/ public health education or health promotion.  

Demand for this profession: The amount of jobs for a health educator in the years 2014-2024 is 57,570.  This is expected to grow 13% by the year 2024.

Do you think you would like to be one?  Why? Why not?

I would not like to be one because I feel that this job does not suit my personality.

Healthcare Administrator

Duties and Responsibilities:  A healthcare administrator manages the administrative tasks that involve hospitals.  They keep track of patient records, answer phone calls, issue and pay bills, etc.  The job of a healthcare administrator is to handle the “office-task” part of being a doctor.  They help doctors a lot because without a healthcare administrator, a doctor would have to handle all of the responsibilities.

Salary:  The average salary for a healthcare administrator is $103, 000.

Education:  The minimal education requirement to become a healthcare administrator is a bachelors or masters degree in public health/nursing or hospital/business management.  Healthcare administrators are also required to have certain job skills like interpersonal skills, leadership, organization skills, and problem solving skills.

Demand for this profession:  The number of jobs for future healthcare administrators is 333,000 in the years 2014-2024.  This is expected to grow 17% in the years 2014-2024.

I would not like to be a healthcare administrator because I think it is too much like an office job, which I do not like.

I believe that this quote is very inspirational.  It is telling us that we must always choose the right, and I think that is important.  If we are surrounded by people who are choosing the wrong, we need to be that ONE person who is doing the wrong thing.  I like that Monson says that we need to have moral courage.  I feel that he is kind of saying that we must have good morals, and that we must be able to put those first.  In order be an honest being, we need to be honest.  In order to be bad people, we need to do bad things.  What I am trying to say is that our actions determine who we are as people.  If we choose the right, then we are good people.  And if we choose the wrong, than are the opposite of good people.  We make our own destiny, our own fate by the decisions we make everyday.  We must set an example for others and the good so that they can become good themselves. 

Fashion Designer

Duties and Responsibilities:  The primary job of a fashion designer is to design and create new pieces of clothing.  Fashion designers can choose whether they would like to work in certain type of apparel, like clothing, footwear, or accessories (jewelry, scarfs, headbands, etc.).  A fashion designer also has to keep up with the latest trends that focus on meeting certain standards so that the apparel they design can be purchased.  Another thing that this profession requires is meeting with sales and marketing managers to determine whether an item should be sold or not.  The main duty of a fashion designer is to be creative and imaginative with their designs.

Salary: Fashion designers earn, on average, $62, 860 a year.

Education:  The required education for a fashion designer is a bachelor's degree.  It is recommended that students who would like to become fashion designers take like clothing design, computer aided design (CAD), marketing fashion, and many more.  It would also improve the chances of receiving a job with taking a fashion design program combined with obtaining a degree in merchandising or business.

Demand for this profession:  In the years 2014-2024, the number of jobs for fashion designers is 23,100.  This rate is expected to grow 3% by the year 2024.

I want to be a fashion designer, which is why I chose to research this career.  I would love to be a fashion designer because I love clothes and I love being able to create something new.  I am also a very creative and imaginative person, so I think that this career suits me and my personality.

What this quote means to me is that we need to focus on ourselves.  People need to focus on who they are as people.  They need to focus on their character and their personality.  What makes us good people or good humans, is that we choose the right.  I think that what Trigueros was trying to say is that we need to build up a life in where we always choose the right.  A life where we don't event think about dong what we know is wrong.  A CTR champion is a person who knows who they are, who helps others, who does what is RIGHT.  A CTR champion is a person who is kind and generous:). 

Environmental Health Specialist

Duties and Responsibilities:  An environmental health specialist’s job is to make sure that an environment (such as residential, industrial, commercial, and recreational) is healthy and safe.  An E.H.S. has to make sure that an environment meets certain safety and health regulations.  THeir job is to check for health or safety hazards and make any changes necessary to an environment in order to make it suitable.

Salary: An E.H.S. makes up to $37,300 to $57,551 a year.

Education:  To become and E.H.S., you must obtain a bachelor's degree.  Students who want to become environmental health specialist’s will take courses such as chemistry, biology, public health, physical sciences, etc.  They can also receive credentials or licenses from the National Environmental Health Association (NEHA).

Demand for this profession:  The number of jobs for an E.H.S. in the years 2014-2024 is 96,400.  This employment rate is expected to change by 11% in the years 2014-2024.

This career actually does interest me.  I would like to be an environmental health specialist because the job seems fun and it would also be healthy to know safety and health regulations not just for the job, but for myself and my family (in the future).

     I really, really, really like this quote!  I like that it is very positive and bright.  This quote means that in order to achieve our goals, the first step is tell ourselves what our goals are.  Everybody has goals in life, but does everybody achieve them?  No.  No because a lot of people aren't willing to work for their goals and they aren't willing to set them.  Sometimes people believe that they can't achieve their goals because they don't feel capable.  But the truth is, we need to make our goals clear and attainable so that we can achieve them.  Whether we write them down or say them out loud or put them on a chart, we NEED to set our goals that that we can get our goals.  Goals are very important in life because without goals, everybody would just stay in the same place.  Nobody would go anywhere and nobody would get better.  This is why I think that people need to set goals in order to achieve them.  

Christopher Columbus

Christopher Columbus was born in 1451.  Columbus always had a fascination for sailing and he began at the age of 14.  He is most known for “discovering” America, although there is controversy on whether he did or did not discover America.  Once the Spanish King and Queen provided the money necessary for his voyage, he went off to find money or any goods that he could find in present day Bahamas.  This voyage was in August 1492, the year that Columbus discovered America.  Columbus wanted to bring back gold to the King and Queen in order to prove that what he believed was true, and that he could actually find something of value.  He had a hard time finding anything on the island, and he actually forced people to mine for gold. Columbus returned to the King and Queen empty-handed.  Columbus died in 1506, and the King and Queen sent him away in 1504.

Columbus Day

Columbus Day celebrates the discovery of America.  It usually celebrated on October 12.  It is a national holiday and people celebrate it all around the world.  Columbus Day first became a holiday in the year 1906, and it became a federal holiday in the U.S. in 1937.  It is named after Christopher Columbus, since he is said to be the one who discovered America.  However, there are some states that do NOT celebrate Columbus Day, like Alaska and Hawaii.

Reflection:

I actually have never paid much attention to this holiday.  I do think that it is an extremely important holiday because it celebrates America!  It celebrates our country and we should take pride in our country.  I also think that Christopher Columbus gets a lot of recognition on this day, which isn’t a bad thing.

What this quote is saying is that we need to learn how to be disciplined and mannered.  When people hear the word "obedient", they think that they are giving up their freedom or they think that they are giving up control.  I know I have said that a lot in my past entries, but it is true and I can't stress it enough.  The thing is, people need to learn how  to become disciplined because it helps in our everyday life.  Being obedient doesn't necessarily mean that we are obedient to other people.  We need to be obedient to what our hearts tell us is right, to our goals, to our dreams.  We need to be obedient our goals because that is the only way we will ever achieve.  This quote is stating that it is important that obedience is our primary goal.  Once we learn to be obedient, everything else will come a little easier to us in our everyday lives.  This is at least how I interpret quotes about obedience.  I think that they are saying to us that we need to listen to ourselves before we listen to others.  Why?  Because this is OUR life, and not anybody else's.

Nurse

Duties and Responsibilities:  A nurse’s job is to take care of patient and patient information.  A nurse is in charge of making health examinations, provide important health information to the patient, make decisions on a treatment for a certain patient, and also keep patient information on organized and on file.  Nurses help doctor do their jobs, and without them, a doctor would have much more weight to carry on their shoulders.

Salary:  A nurse makes $65, 470 a year.  They make about $35 per hour.  

Education: The required education for a nurse is an associate's degree.  It is recommended that nurses also take additional programs like Doctor of Nursing Practice programs or Doctor of Philosophy programs in order to have a better chance at employment.

Demand for this profession:  The number of jobs for nurses in the years 2014-2024 is 2,751,000.  This employment rate is expected to change 16% in the years 2014-2024.  

Would you like to be one?  Why? Why not?

I would consider becoming a nurse, but not as my career or profession.  I think it would be a good job experience, and I also think that it will help me step out of my comfort zone a little bit.  I am interested in this career, and I think it will benefit my future if I take it on as a part-time job.
