Whenever we do something that is right, we are showing people that we like being "popular" more than being a person with integrity.  It is important that more and more people start doing what is right, because that is the only way that people will see that being kind is far better than being cruel.  Especially when it comes to little kids, because children see and copy everything that we do.  Essentially, this quote is saying that we have to be a good example for other people to follow.  Instead of following other people and what they're doing, be an example yourself and let others follow you.  It is important for people to see someone who is kind and pure-it helps people have hope and faith in humanity.  Whenever you see someone that needs help, just help them.  Don’t do it because you want to get a reward, just do it because it is the right thing to do.  What Smith is saying in this quote, is that it is our responsibility to make "doing the right thing" popular.  It is our responsibility to let people know that doing the right thing is always "cool" or "fun".
