Spring Break
Spring Break was great and much needed.  I spent most of my break at my dad's house, and I tried to be as productive as possible.  I mostly relaxed and watched TV and Netflix.  I started (and finished) a new show on Netflix called 13 Reasons Why.  I was excited to watch the show because it Is based on a book that I read.  During the week, I spent a lot of time with my brother.  We went to the park and to the mall.  Spring Break was uneventful, mostly because all I did was sit at home and relax.  Yesterday, which was Easter Sunday, me and my family went to eat.  We went to a restaurant called Diana's, which we have been going to for quite some time now.  After eating, me and my family went to go visit my Mama Maria at her house.  I also saw my nephew, Damian, which turned 1 just a week ago.  My Spring Break was fun, but relaxed and I didn’t really do anything big or extravagant.  I spent time with my family, which to me is the best way to spend a vacation.

Student Success Statement
"I am not bound to win, but I am bound to be true.  I must stand with anybody that stands right, and stand with him while he is right, and part with him when he goes wrong."
Abraham Lincoln
This relates to the last Student Success Statement.  Your character consists of who you are, your intentions, and your actions.  Not only do you, yourself, have to be kind, but the people you associate yourself with have to be kind too.  You cannot expect to be seen as you are if the people around you do not reflect who you are.  When you spend time with people who have the same intentions in life as you do-to be good- you will see that slowly start to reflect on you.  Whether we believe it or not, we are the company we keep.  When someone is wrong, it is time to stand away from them.  When someone is right, it is time to stand with them.  You are "bound", by whatever it is you believe in (God, nature, science, etc.), to be good.  You are bound to be true and honest- and so are the people who you choose to surround yourself with.  The people who have your best interest at heart are those that decide to encourage you to always do the right thing.  it also shows your character whether you choose those people or people who you know aren't good for you.

Student Success Statement
"Character is higher than intellect."
Ralph Waldo Emerson
Image result for character is higher than intellect
If you don’t have a good heart, nothing else matters.  You can have all the money in the world, you can be a genius, you can be anything- but if you do not have a genuine, kind heart and soul, none of it matters.  The true meaning of happiness is when you can look in the mirror and be completely proud of who you are.  You can say to yourself that you are a good person with good intentions and morals.  If you are the smartest kid in school, but you bully people, does your intelligence really matter?  Your character if higher than anything else in your life.  Your character is YOU.  Who you are, how you treat others, and how you treat yourself.  Your integrity is more important than anything else in your life.  Your character is what attracts people to you.  Your character is what lets people know "Is this a good or bad person?"  This is why character is much higher than intellect, like the quote states.  It is higher than intellect because intellect has a limit to where it can take you, and character does not.  Your character can take you anywhere you want it to, as long as you're a good person with a good heart and good soul.

Student Success Statement
"I trust that my hard work will pay off."
Tyler Haws
Image result for tyler hawsWhen you truly want to achieve something, there is nothing that can stop you.  You put all of yourself into whatever it is that you want to achieve.  This quote reminds me of another quote that goes like this: "Hard work beats talent when talent doesn't work hard."  This quote is saying that you are capable of achieving great things if you truly believe that you can.  You have to trust that if you studied really hard for a test, that you will receive the grade you want.  You have to trust that your hard work and dedication will not go unnoticed and unrewarded.  I like this quote because it is telling you that you have to work hard, but you must also trust the fact that you did your best and that the outcome you get shouldn't result in you feeling like you didn’t work hard enough.  Haws is saying that in the end, the amount of work you put in will determine if you get or don’t get your desired results.  That is the way that life is, with everything.  You have to work hard and BELIEVE that you can get what you what in order to get it.

Student Success Statement
"True independence can only exist in doing what's right."
Brigham Young
Image result for brigham young quotesThere are a lot of things that people want in this world.   The one thing that everyone truly wants and needs in their life is freedom.  Even though  a lot of people do not deserve this freedom because their actions do not show that they want it, everyone has the opportunity to obtain it.  If you want to be free and independent in life, you have to live the right way.  You cannot be free if you do not obey laws and rules that are in place to protect you.  You cannot be independent if you keep doing the wrong thing because that means that you are not capable of being responsible and that someone must always be watching over you.  For example, if you want to be independent and have a phone, you first have to prove to your parents that you are responsible enough to not take advantage of that phone.  It is important to do what is right, always.  Being able to be kind and do what is right is a true sign of independence, maturity, and freedom.

Student Success Statement
"They're only truly great who are truly good."
George Chapman

Image result for they're only truly great who are truly goodI think that the words "great" and "good" mean two very different things.  Being great means that you have accomplished big things, that people look up to you, that you are an amazing student, athlete, player, parent, daughter, son, friend etc.  To be good means to be kind, to be a gentle spirit, to spread positivity and happiness.  Although these two words have different meanings, they still relate to each other very much.  In order for you to be seen as great, you must first be seen as good.  You have to be a kind person so that you can grow in all other aspects of life.  Start by being a good person so that you can become a great student or athlete or parent or daughter/son or whatever it is you want to be great at.  Being good will get you much farther in life than being great.  This quote is saying exactly that: being good is better than being great.  The people who are kind spirits are the true great ones.  Not the person who has the most money or the most fancy car and fancy house, the person who possess the qualities of humility, good and kind spirit and heart, and the ability to spread positive to those around you.
